I managed to get ahold of what I hope is a legit ISO of Windows 7 through a German site that was apparently uploading exact copies of the old (legal) Digital River ISOs, which have since come down. My DVD drive doesn't read, so a USB flash drive is my most viable option here. I hope it's not a hardware issue, so I'm at a point where I'm ready to format my C: drive (with the OS on it) and reinstall Windows 7. In short, I can't get my PC to boot up, even in Safe Mode (hangs indefinitely at CLASSPNP.SYS), and none of the System Recovery Tools can help me at this point. I appreciate all the links and help you guys have offered. I did manage to get my PC booted up (maybe only once, but I'll take it) using the boot USB and then running System Recovery tools (Memory Diagnostic.no errors, but upon restart Windows started up). Simply select USB flash drive option on Choose where to save the installation file screen to download the installation files and prepare the bootable USB.EDIT: Thank you so much, you guys are awesome. That is, you don’t need to actually download the ISO file in order to prepare the bootable USB. In addition to downloading ISO image files, Windows Installation Media Creation Tool can be used to prepare the bootable USB of your Windows 8.1 as well. The time required to download the ISO image will depend on your internet connection speed and load on Microsoft servers. After running the executable, you need to select your language, edition of Windows 8.1, and then the architecture type. To run Windows Installation Media Creation Tool on Windows 7, simply download the utility by visiting this page of Microsoft and then run the downloaded executable. Since the tool doesn’t prompt you to enter the license key in order to initiate the download, it’s much easier to download the official ISO.
